Pointe-Claire
A lakeside West Island city with a historic village, a stone windmill and easy access to the REM and exo trains.
The feel of the neighbourhood
Pointe-Claire stretches from the shore of Lac Saint-Louis up to Highway 40. Down by the water, Pointe-Claire Village has cafés, small shops and the old stone windmill on the point, one of the oldest buildings on the island. Further north, quiet crescents of bungalows and split-levels sit around parks, schools and community pools.
Living here
Families like the mix of English and French schools, the many sports clubs and the lakeside parks. Fairview Pointe-Claire covers most shopping, and the REM light rail and exo commuter trains make the trip downtown easy without a car.
What to know about the market
Original 1950s and 1960s homes are popular with first-time buyers who are happy to renovate over time, while homes south of Highway 20 near the lake come up less often and sell quickly. We check foundations, drainage and the age of the roof and windows carefully on older homes.
